Some people like to put pictures of Adam Lambert on their shower curtain, others prefer Michael Jackson. Nevertheless, the shower curtains shown in the pictures we have below are far from normal. Our personal favorites include the Robert Patterson curtain and the santa-hat wearing nude man. [Via Buzzfeed]
It's not everyday that the judges of the world's most popular talent quest get to see a Canadian tone-deaf terror-suspect audition for a spot on the show. Turns out, the judges of Canadian Idol (the Canadian equivalent of American Idol) were granted such an experience.
I wasn't actually joking about the terrorist part:
"Hiva Alizadeh, 30, and Misbahuddin Ahmed, 26, appeared in court after their arrests on Wednesday in Ottawa. They are to appear again, by video, next Wednesday. Dr. Khurram Syed Sher was taken into custody in London, Ontario, on Thursday. All three are Canadian." Reports the Associated Press. "Sher, 28, appeared on the reality show "Canadian Idol" in 2008 singing a comical version of Avril Lavigne's "Complicated," complete with dance moves that include a moonwalk."
A woman who has been dubbed 'Britains most disgusting' is seen in the CCTV footage embedded above urinating on a Blackpool war memorial, which records deaths from the First World War to the present day. "Another man, would you believe it, even ejaculated on it," a member of the Blackpool Royal British Legion told the press.
She reportedly narrowly escaped imprisonment in court today, and a 'fury of ex-servicemen' gathered outside the courthouse waiting for her.
Perhaps a good tip for amusement park operators, particularly those operating under the slogan 'The Happiest Place on Earth', would be not to actually perpetuate the name of the rides you build.
Disneyland's so-called 'Tower of Terror' did just that, a television newsroom has reported, after a guest fell some 25 feet while waiting to hop onboard one of the ride's elevators.
Although the ride is actually made to have guests drop down several flights of stairs in just a matter of seconds, Disney hopes that guests opt to use the tower's built-in terror elevators.
The 20-year old climbed a rail and fell off - having had alcohol - and having just joked to his friends about the potential of actually falling off.
He was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.
The Governor of New Jersey has today signed a law that prohibits the use of the word 'retarded' to refer to people with mental disabilities in official documents. Therefore, the term 'mentally retarded' is now banned in all official state business.
“This is making sure each citizen in our state is treated with the respect they deserve,” Chris Christie, the Governor who signed the ban into law, said. “It’s their government too.”
“We’d like New Jersey to get to a place where you can’t use the ‘R’ word without it being inflammatory,” noted the leader of a local group which supports any law which seeks to remove the word from casual use within society.
The bill also bans the use of the words 'handicapped', 'feeble minded' and 'physically defective'. All of these terms currently appear within the legal documents of the state, and will have to be removed as a result of the new ban.
Eden Abergil, a former Israeli soildier, has come under fire in the online press after she posted photos on the social networking site Facebook where she is seen posing with blindfolding prisoners.
Her use of the prisoners as a backdrop for her numerous photos has drawn criticism from a number of high-profile Israeli news websites and blogs.
The controversy is said to be a reminder of the unmistakable tension between Israeli authorities and the Palestinian citizens living in Israel. See more photos here.
We all knew that traffic and parking in major cities was bad, particularly in New York. We weren't quite so convinced that it was as bad as this. Two ice cream vendors operating on the streets of New York's Manhattan are seen waging a fist fight over a prime parking spot.
Two French thieves are being hunted down by Paris police after one flashed her breasts at an ATM user, in order to distract him while an accomplice took his money.
Although the incident was captured on CCTV, the women have not yet been identified, and police are warning other ATM users to be on the lookout.“We would advise anyone withdrawing cash from a machine to focus on what they are doing and not allow themselves to be distracted, however attractive the view,” a spokesman suggested.
The perpetrators, who are described as women (duh) in their twenties, withdrew 300 euros from his account before escaping the scene of the crime.
Fans of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz may be disappointed with the latest story of escapades perpetrated by the beloved 'Tin Man' character. A man dressed as the character, who is made entirely of tin, stabbed a Times Square visitor with a screwdriver.
The conflict, according to a popular New York tabloid, was sparked by a turf war which erupted between two street performers in the popular tourist destination. The man got into an argument, it has been reported, with a CitySights employee.
"It was a scuffle going back and forth on the ground," said a witness who observed the entire ordeal. "The silver guy got up and took off."
A Pennsylvania woman, having visited Disney World Florida's Epcot Centre theme park, is suing the Walt Disney Company because - she claims - an employee of the company dressed as Donald Duck 'grabbed her breast and molested her' after she sought an autograph from the much loved character.
According to the report filed under the lawsuit, the Duck made gestures with his 'snowy white hands' indicating he had done something wrong. The 27 year old was visiting Epcot in May 2008 with her fiancee and children.
She claims that as a result of the incident, she has suffered “severe physical injury, emotional anguish and distress including, but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder.”
She is suing the company, who is looking to have the case moved into federal court, for negligence, battery, and infliction of emotional distress, and is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.
For Franklin Barndt, standing in front of a judge in handcuffs, wearing a jumpsuit and hearing drug charges to his name wasn't enough to stop him from finally marrying his longtime girlfriend Takesha Piazza.
Barndt was arrested on drug charges after he was found with around 20 grams of crack in his stylish Northampton County apartment.
When he went before a judge on the charges, he had his defense attorney arrange a quickie wedding to be held in conjunction with the trial.
"I am extremely happy. It turned out to be the best day of my life. I can't wait for him to come home," Piazza is reported to have said.
New Plymouth Police are hunting for a man (video above) who stole a box of ribs from a local restaurant earlier this month. At about 6:30 PM, a man dressed - ever so stylishly - in a white New York Yankee's baseball cap snuck into the establishment, escaping with a 17kg box of meat. Police are appealing for the man to hand himself in.
It isn't the first time crazy ideas have taken off, but this one is certainly a first. Reports have now been released that suggest a new American Idol-like television show for prisoners is in development. Even as the original struggles, "Talent Behind Bars", as the TV show is rumored to be called, is being pursued as a concept for Investigation Discovery.
According to BroadcastingCable.com:
"The essence of the show is to highlight people who have been convicted of non-violent crimes and misdemeanors," Schleiff told B&C after the presentation. "Maybe there's somebody in a part of the country where they've never had a real chance to have a proper education, but they have a talent. Maybe it's singing, for example. So if we can give somebody like that, because of the use of the medium of our series, a break, they [might] get seen. And [if] someone sees that they have an extraordinary ability, it's a chance for maybe a little bit of a redemption."
Prizes for the winners of such a show are yet to be decided but, as many have already speculated, a range of rewards based around prisoner rehabilitation may be up for grabs. [Broadcasting Cable]
Turns out that Google Earth, the wonderful software developed by search company Google, can be useful for more than just looking at one's own house from above.
A small town on New York's Long Island has been using the program to look for pools that it has not permitted in the back yards of unsuspecting citizens.
Violators, a New York television station was told, had to get a permit or scrap their beloved pool. "The technology is going so far ahead of what people think is possible, and there is too little discussion about community norms," a spokeswomen for the program said.
As they say: If you don't like what you got, complain. This is perhaps no more true in a case where a robber - who held up an Atlanta Wendy's at gunpoint - was so unhappy with the loot he managed to grab that he called the burger-joint twice to complain.
"Next time," he said in one of the phone calls, "it better be more like $586". According to an Atlanta-based news website:
About 11:15 p.m., a man wearing a ski mask and holding a gun walked up to the drive-through window at the Wendy's at 1940 Piedmont Road, police said. He told an employee to put the cash drawer on the counter.
After grabbing the drawer and running away, the robber discarded the drawer in the bushes at the nearby InTown Suites. Police dusted the drawer for fingerprints. However, the robber was seen wearing yellow gloves at Wendy's.
It's fairly clear at this point that Jan Schill, the daughter of a judicial candidate in Oklahoma, is really quite frightened that her father might be elected and become a judge, and she's got the signs and website to prove it. I don't think he would have entertained the thought before the election that the biggest smear campaign launched at him would be from his own daughter.
The candidate, named John Mantooth, says that the relationship between him and his daughter stems from his divorce of her mother.
"This is a family issue which should have been kept private," he said Monday. "I'm very sad about this. I'm very disappointed. I'm hurt, but I love my daughter, and I want things to get better, and I hope they will."
A man believed by his father to be 'possessed by an evil female genie' has been chained to a bed for six years in the basement of his paternal captor, the Daily Mail reports.
'When he has fits he has convulsions and his entire body twists and his eyes become completely white,' said the father of the 29-year-old man.
Bad: a 17-year-old mother was arrested on Friday after surveillance cameras caught her trying to smother her four-month-old to death to "make life easier." Worse: she admitted to attempting it three previous times. Worst: she's barely being charged. [This post has been republished from an external source]
Below is a video report from Dallas-Fort Worth's KDFW FOX affiliate about the arrest of Shantaniqua Nykole Scott, who is currently being held on $25,000 bail after surveillance cameras at the hospital she was at with her infant son caught her trying to smother him, first with a blanket, and then with her hand.
Here's where things get even crazier: according to KDFW, Scott admitted to three previous attempts to murder her child upon being arrested. When asked why she did it this time, Scott replied that she wanted to kill her baby to "make life easier." [Read more after the jump] And here's the most outrageous part of all of this: Scott has been charged only with "causing injury to a child," and—while the felony could bring a penalty as high as life in prison—it would likely be much harder to sentence Scott to a more substantial term than if she was charged with attempted murder (and, given the admission of three previous attempts, why the hell wouldn't she be?).
Thankfully, hospital employees were able to revive Scott's son, who was barely breathing upon being found, before he expired—and he's expected to make a full recovery. [Republished from Gawker.TV]
The weird nature of this story was a little too much for Britain's trashy tabloid, The Sun, who put it on their front page having discovered that the black family pictured on the left have produced white offspring.
Genetics experts, the paper reports, were shocked to find that the baby - who is white - is not an albino.
The parents simply sat there, they continue, and just stared at their newborn child.
The father was so surprised, he even joked "is this mine", after seeing the child. "Actually", he is quoted to have said, "the first thing I did was look at her and say 'what the flip?'"
Pale genes, it is reported, could have skipped a couple of generations before cropping up again - although the true cause of the baby's appearance is unknown. [The Sun]
