Apple unveils brand new iPod Touch, touchscreen Nano, all new iTunes and Apple TV

Cupertino based company Apple Inc, the company behind the popular Mac range of computers as well as the iPod and iPhone, has unveiled a brand new range of entertainment products in an event held as part of a press conference in California.

The new line of iPods include a touchscreen nano device. Instead of buttons, the device uses controls placed directly on the screen. Additionally, the company's popular iPod Touch - something of an entry level iPhone - has been revamped to include, among other features, the company's new 'Facetime' feature, which was introduced when the company unveiled its new iPhone.

Steve Jobs, the company's co-founder and Chief Executive, also pointed out that the entertainment software Apple owns, iTunes, will include social features - allowing users to see what their friends are listening to and so on.

Apple TV, a product regularly dismissed as a 'pet project' for Apple, has been completely revamped as well. It has been designed with renting and buying high-definition movies in mind.

Apple manager found to be running huge kickback scheme

Apple, the company behind the iPod, iPhone and most recently, the iPad, has just accused a manager within the company of supplying information to a Chinese company so that they can negotiate better deals with the technology giant. Paul Shin Devine of Sunnyvale, the manager in question, didn't do too badly out of the scheme, however.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that he made some $1 million during his time running the little business. He reportedly shared his earnings with his loyal partner in crime. "We have zero tolerance for dishonest behavior inside or outside the company," a spokesman for Apple told the paper.

Larry Ellison mocks HP board - Just like the 'idiots' at Apple

Larry Ellison, the billionaire CEO of business software firm Oracle and Silicon Valley's official spendmaster general, has caused a stir within the technology gossip world after he likened the board at embattled hardware maker HP to the 'idiots' at tech giant Apple Inc.

Ellison took time out of his busy schedule to talk to the New York Times on the matter, reports Engadget.

"The H.P. board just made the worst personnel decision since the idiots on the Apple board fired Steve Jobs many years ago. That decision nearly destroyed Apple and would have if Steve hadn't come back and saved them," he is quoted to have told a reporter.

Ellison also criticized the people at HP for releasing the sexual harassment claim brought against CEO Mark Hurd. He went on to say that it was a case of "cowardly corporate political correctness".

Pricing struggles between Apple and Vodafone behind troubled iPhone launch

According to an article in today's Businessday, the chaotic launch customers experienced with Apple's new iPhone was due to a pricing disagreement between Vodafone, the carrier for New Zealand, and Apple - the company which makes the iPhone.

According to Stuff.co.nz:
Apple advised Vodafone to change pricing for the iPhone 4 shortly before it was due to hit shop shelves, but an angry Vodafone threatened to can the launch entirely, according to a source.
It is understood Vodafone's head office in Britain then intervened, demanding its local subsidiary proceed.
A Vodafone spokesperson says that Vodafone will neither confirm nor deny stories of such a disagreement. [Business Day]

Yoko Ono: Beatles won't be coming to iTunes anytime soon

For those hoping that the much-awaited iTunes Beatles launch will be coming soon - particularly after intense speculation - don't get your hopes up. The widow of John Lennon, Yoko Ono, has denied speculation that the band of her late husband will finally be making an appearance on Apple's music store.

“Steve Jobs has his own idea and he’s a brilliant guy … There’s just an element that we’re not very happy about, as people. We are holding out,” Ono said, according to tech blog Mashable.

Ono also has influence in making such a decision regarding the availability of Beatles music - considering she has a share in Apple Corps (not to be confused with iTunes owner Apple Inc), which controls the rights to the Beatles.

The shareholders, it has been reported, all have differing views as to how the much loved music of the band should be sold in the 21st century. “Don’t hold your breath … for anything,” she said.

People who own iPads have awful personalities and are 'selfish elitists', study reveals

An online-based quizmaster and personality-based social networking site named MyType has published the findings of a 'study' that reveal owners of Apple's new iPad are "selfish elitists".

The study, according to the New York Observer, is 'catnip for journalists', having already caught the eye of around 75 news outlets - based on a simple Google News search.

Apart from being stuck up and selfish, the report details how iPad owners are intelligent, wealthy and sophisticated. In other words, it can't be too bad.

The iPad 'elite', it continues, is not defined by wealth, but more a common bond between them. A constellation of characteristics that defines a leadership class that includes intellectuals and political influencers.

Anti-Republicanism comes alive in all new Apple ad parody

There are so many Apple ad parodies out there, but this one takes a slightly different angle. Not taking the path of satirizing Apple products, but more the Grand Old Party, is what makes this particular video stand out. Want a president who still thinks America's energy issues can be solved by drilling more wells like the one in the Gulf? There's a Republican for that.

Turns out that Steve Jobs has always been a fan of turtlenecks

As if to prove the influence Steve Jobs has had on Apple computer, we encourage you to simply glance at the old Apple II poster to the left of this text, circa 1977.

In case you're unaware of the significance this old poster possesses, it is one of Steve Jobs' trademark fashion statements to turn up at Apple events clad in a turtleneck with mandatory sneakers and jeans.

Timeless fashion, certainly appropriate for such a timeless company. [Via Gizmodo]

Virgin maverick launches new iPad magazine called...Maverick

Flamboyant entrepreneur Richard Branson, the chairman of the Virgin group of companies, has decided to launch himself head-first into the realm of the Apple iPad with a new magazine that exists only on the device.

The first of its kind, the new magazine - cleverly named Maverick - will have no print companion, and will signify what is considered by many to be a new kind of digital media.

Branson's daughter is reportedly leading the initiative [grunt over nepotism], which will not be available on any other device like Amazon.com's Kindle, which lacks the necessary gloss and design that a magazine-like publication requires.

Apple profit rises 78%, may just be the most profitable religion on the planet

Microsoft could learn a thing or two from Apple. Their philosophy on making products that people actually want to buy appears to be working well for them; profit at the Cupertino based company skyrocketed 78% last quarter.

Apple said that the huge growth that the company continues to see is a result of a number of new products - which include the iPad and new iPhone.

The Vatican could take a tip or two as well. Another key to Apple's success is its huge cult-like following.

The company has a devoted fan base that quickly moves in when a product is released - immediately catapulting it into the spotlight of consumer desirability, particularly among technology lovers.
