Rachel Maddow eviscerates Bill O'Reilly: 'Stupid' and 'without evidence'

Rachel Maddow, the liberal political pundit - or 'far left loon' in Fox News' parlance - and host of The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, took time out of her slot on the network to rebut a number of comments made by the conservative television personality Bill O'Reilly.

Maddow responded both to O'Reilly's comments on his own show, The O'Reilly Factor, and also comments he made in a syndicated column which was read nationally in a number of highly respected metropolitan dailies.

"This time the case against me is in his nationally-syndicated column, which I'm sure is read by millions and millions and millions and millions and millions of people," she said, mocking O'Reilly's attitude, which simply reeks of his own over-inflated sense of self-importance, to dismiss arguments against him.

O'Reilly's comments were triggered by a comment Maddow made on David Letterman's show where she called the people at Fox News 'slimeballs'.

"Remember, Mr. O'Reilly says there is not a shred of evidence that Fox News hypes stories about scary black people taking white people's stuff," she said.
"I am not interested in playing cable news insult ping-pong with Mr. O'Reilly, but as much as he keeps insisting that I'm no one worth arguing with, that I'm an 'uber-leftist' -- he called me that in his column -- and a loon twice now, and a slightly larger percentage of 1% of the population watches his show than the proportion of 1% of the population that watches my show, for all he complains about how unimportant I am, my criticism that Fox News scares white people on purpose to politically benefit conservatives -- damn the consequences for the country -- that criticism appears to have struck a nerve over at Fox. It appears to have gotten under Mr. O'Reilly's skin," she concluded. "Good."

Sarah Palin uses hand notes to defend Bush tax cuts (video)

It would appear that Sarah Palin hasn't learned anything from her last experience of using inner-hand notes. For most of us it was school, but for Sarah Palin it was just a couple of days ago when she appeared on Fox News Sunday.

"[Obama's] commitment to let previous tax cuts expire are going to lead to even fewer job opportunities for Americans," Palin said. "It's idiotic to think about increasing taxes at a time like this."
"My palm isn't large enough to have written all my notes down on what this tax increase, what it will result in," Palin continued.

Personification of stupidity: man blows off arm with fireworks

New York police reported that a man using a 3-foot long tube to shoot fireworks out of has blown off his left arm at a Long Island party, the Washington Post reports.
Suffolk County police say 36-year-old Eric Smith was using a 3-foot long metal tube to shoot mortars from the street near his Islip (EYE'-slip) Terrace home around 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
Police believe he leaned over the device to ignite it and didn't get out of the way before an explosive shot out of the launcher. His left arm was severed at the shoulder.
The man was taken to hospital in serious condition while his friends, poor fellows, tried to save his arm by wrapping it in ice. Police say that another man was also taken to the hospital, but the Washington Post is unsure as to why this occurred.

The internet's new pet love: WikiLeaks founder is being 'hunted'

It has been reported for some time now that the Pentagon is supposedly 'frantically searching' for the founder, Julian Assange, of the up and coming website, WikiLeaks, which allows users to anonymously upload classified files and documents.

Is that all that difficult to follow? I think he's in Las Vegas. If they are frantically searching as a number of trusted websites claim they are, they can't be doing a very good job. [Via Gawker]
