Brain teasers may actually speed up Alzheimer's or Dementia: Study

Thinking too hard may actually damage the brains of some older people, it is claimed.
Engaging in activities such as doing crossword puzzles, reading and listening to the radio has long been thought to delay mental decline. But new research shows that while at first they slow the decline of thinking skills, brain work-outs actually speed up the progress of dementia once it set in. Study author Robert Wilson, of Rush University Medical Centre in Chicago said mentally stimulating activities may enhance the brain's ability to function relatively normally despite the build-up of lesions associated with dementia. North Koreans prefer amputations without anesthesia

It turns out that in North Korea, having anesthesia during an operation whereby ones leg is amputated is just a frivolous luxury - as revelations emerge that the country's doctors are freely performing amputations with their patients entirely awake.

We can also report that the same policy is employed with regard to working lights - with doctors performing surgery and complicated operations by candlelight.

A 24 year old told the Associated Press that he had his leg amputated without anesthesia and that his ankle was crushed by a moving train after he fell out of the car.

Perhaps, then, North Korea's fashionista dictator should begin to pay more attention to his country's health system than acquiring the newest and latest styles off Shopstyle. [AP]

We can rebuild him...we have the technology

The last time we reported on a bionic/robotic...anything, it was the short-lived, yet rather entertaining, coverage we provided of the emergence of the world's first bionic cat. It seems that we can once again delve into the world of robo-medicine; this time with a human.

A New Zealand company (makes you proud, doesn't it?) named Rex Bionics has developed a groundbreaking pair of what the developers have called 'robotic pants' - which, in something of a miraculous moment, allowed the guinea pig, named Hayden (pictured above), to walk for the first time in five years.

Just a couple of minor issues stop this amazing new device from making it to the masses of wheelchair-bound customers just yet. First off, it's extremely slow - with the robotic legs taking what seems a lifetime to take a single step. Secondly, there's the fact that it lacks any real aesthetic appeal yet. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it comes with the haunting pricetag of a mere $150,000.

The upbeat promotional video made by the company, which can be seen above, details the benefits that the product can offer to somebody who is disabled. [Rex Bionics via TVNZ]

Feeding Obama's fast-food appetite

Barack Obama and the Russian President Medvedev sit down for a sloppy, greasy fast food meal. It seems that these meals are growing on Obama, who ordered burgers and fries for his staff at the White House during Brian Williams' "Inside the Obama White House", which can be seen on YouTube.

Too much sun may give you cancer, but sunblock can too

We have long been told of the importance of putting on sunscreen before spending any prolonged period of time in the harsh sunlight.

However, a new study reveals that some sunblocks can actually accelerate the effects of cancer, and make some people more susceptible.

A New York senator is calling attention to the fact that retinyl palmitate is an ingredient in most sunblocks, and was also proven to accelerate the development of cancerous cells in controlled tests on lab animals.

A Blab on Technology

So day by day technology is getting more and more high tech, making life a whole lot more easier. But I believe people are going to be in for a shock as their lives are disrupted.

It is common for people to do chores such as wash the dishes, vacuum, mow the lawns, clean the litter box, cook dinner and so forth.
But now none of those things are necessary thanks to technology.

So what do people do with their time

How about get a job?
Well sorry kids, but there are no jobs since technology stole them all.

How about you go watch a movie on your 3D TV or have a massage in your living room from your lazy-boy?
If you feel a little peckish help yourself to a snack from your little mini fridge in your lounge.
Oh, your cats litter box is full? Well that's no problem as it now cleans itself.

So now you are getting fat and lazy. How about build something.
Oh wait they have machines that do that. And robots to clean up the mess afterward.

That doesn't solve your new found weight problem caused by technology.
So how about stand in front of your TV on a vibrating machine, while watching all those shows you recorded.
Feeling hungry again ? How about order a pizza off your TV !

Wow

So we have this endless cycle.
It's rather sad really.
Now this situation won't affect all people of course, but it will in the majority.

And to make people stay indoors, they are destroying the outdoors.
In the future will we all be confined to our crammed little houses ?
Will we be able to go outside and smell the fresh air ?

It's scary at how much of an effect technology holds on us
And that my dear friends, is why the Industrial Revolution ruined our lives.
