'Big budget porn film' raises budget of London hospital

It appears that decency is not exactly on the agenda of a London hospital, as the Associated Press reports that one of the building's wards was hired out by a production company wishing to produce a pornographic film using the facility as a set.

In something of an embarrassment for the United Kingdom health system, the movie also ended up bringing in 'substantial income' to the hospital, and managed to raise its budget by a considerable amount. According to the AP:

Speaking in the House of Commons on Monday, Tory MP Penny Mordaunt said: "When I was director of Kensington and Chelsea Council, I discovered that one of our local hospitals was hiring out one of its closed - but fully equipped wards - to a film company to use as a film set.

"To add insult to injury, the movie was a pornographic one. Although I cannot claim to have seen the final picture - as I understand, these things are no longer claimable on parliamentary expenses - it was a big-budget affair and generated substantial income for the hospital.

"I cannot claim to have seen the final picture" - Yeah, that's what they all say.

Minute cartoon penis has iPad app rejected

Apple, the notoriously judgmental and perfectionistic technology company, has declined a cartoonist the ability to promote, sell and market his iPad app version of Ulysses because one of the cartoons includes a minute drawing of one of the character's penises.

According to Slate magazine:

Apple declined to carry a comic-book adaptation of James Joyce's Ulysses for the iPad because one panel showed a man's penis: "While the first chapter of the book, the one now at iTunes, doesn't contain 'offensive language' our comic does have frank nudity. Something we figured we might have to pixelate or cover with 'fig leaves'. But Apple's policy prohibits even that. So we were forced to either scrap the idea of moving to the tablet with Apple or re-design our pages."
